We bought our first house a few weeks ago. After thirteen years of renting and moving and renting and moving, we're finally putting down roots. When Jeff first started medical school and we did the math to figure out how old we would be when he would finally have a job, I may have cried a bit. It seemed so far away. Most of our friends were already starting their careers and buying homes and it just felt a little unfair that we had to wait so long. Early on I learned to stop spending all my time looking towards the future when we we have what everyone else seemed to have and just enjoy the present. So we drove clunkers and shared one bathroom and we learned to live with tiny kitchens and our kids shared the big room while we slept in the small room. Our dining room doubled as an office and our living room doubled as everything else. We're grateful for those times because they help us appreciate our new home even more. Now we have room to play and kitchen counter space to spare and more than one of us can use the toilet at a time. It's like a dream!
We can't wait to mark our kids' growth on the wall and have birthday parties in the backyard and take prom pictures on the staircase and plant a lemon tree and watch it grow. We can't wait to make this house our home. It was definitely worth the wait.

So happy for you guys. And for me - I've stayed in a couple of those rentals as an honored guest and I too am excited about enough toilets to go around. You DID it! And now I'm waiting for before and after pics of every room. Get back to work, lady.
A dream come true! Such a happy house to make into your home.
Hooray for you! Have a house is THE BEST! You're probably in the "hemorrhaging money because you don't have anything to mow the grass, paint walls, put up shelves" etc. It's a beautiful thing to be on a first name basis with the folks at Home Depot and Lowes and Ace. Have so much fun!!!!!!! I LOVE having a room that is used for one thing at a time!!!!!
Congratulations!! It feels nice to expand. I am so impressed that you were able to be frugal for so long and live in the moment. Hope all is going well with the house!
