Sweet Tooth Root Canal

Here they are--the last two Creamies of the summer. My obsession with all things sweet and frozen has caught up with me. I have exactly two pair of pants that fit me. Time to get serious about my health. I'm banishing sweets from my home for a while. They done me wrong.

Yesterday was my first attempt at a sugar-free day. Everything was going fine until 10:30am when I discovered a snack size bag of pecan sandies. I ripped open the bag like some sort of savage. That's right. I lasted exactly two and a half hours before I caved. Why do I love the sugar so? I would never survive in a gingerbread house. I probably would have eaten my kids by now if they were topped with ice cream. (Sometimes I suspect they are made of caramel. How else to explain the perpetually sticky hands?)

I think I have a problem. The first step is admitting it and the second step is asking for help. HELP! I need some alternatives to eating sweets. I'm mostly an emotional eater, so any alternative will do. I'll try anything but running. And tofu. I mean, I want to live a healthier lifestyle, but let's not go crazy. Any advice?

Fruit is the only thing that I can suggest eating when you need something sweet. Freeze cut up watermelon. That's good.

I was going to suggest fruit too. Grapes are pretty sweet so I find I don't crave sugary things after eating them. I also like the pineapple, strawberry combo (with grapes or banana is good too). Of course, I am certainly NOT a pro at turning to fruit instead of sugar... my last preggy appointment was a little disappointing in the weight area. I am an emotional eater too. I am trying to make up for it this month though. :) Maybe we could do it together!

Oh man, I have such a sweet tooth. I'm constantly on alert when anything sweet comes into view. I've been known to put half the amount of water called for in instant hot chocolate and twice the number of packets. It's sick. I've discovered a fiber filled/whole grain breakfast and lots of fruit around the house is the only thing that keeps me to one treat a day. Sick, I know.:)

CRAISINS! that's what gets me through the tough times. that and baby carrots. i could eat a whole bag of those. and, i know you aren't down with celery, but i could eat a whole bunch(youknow, a celerybunch) with peanut butter and raisins makes a tasty, healthy snack.

I'm not much of a snacker, but when I start craving naughty stuff I eat almonds. Sometimes I eat almonds covered in sugar and honey.

No running, huh? What kind of exercise do you like? I eat whatever I want when I'm exercising.

Oh I have such a sweet tooth..I just ate a pinch of brown sugar because we ran out of ice cream! I am a total snacker. I snack ALL day long. But, I snack on red bell peppers, carrots, lots and lots of fruit, cucumbers, walnuts, craisins, and fruit leather. Seriously, I don't even buy the other stuff- not even crackers for my kids! We just snack on this stuff. Slice it up when you get home from the store, so it's ready to eat when you are. That way it's just as quick as something else. We've been known to go through 6 bell peppers in a few days. Plus- bonus-- if you snack on this all day, having a treat once in a while isn't a big deal. Also, I ditto the high fiber/whole grain breakfast. We eats lots of oatmeal with walnuts and bananas and brown sugar..yumm! Also, natural peanut butter with all fruit jam is so good and helps my sweet tooth. Sometimes when I am craving sugar I just drink a huge glass of water and that helps.

Okay, I am sure that's too much info. I'm right there with you though- I love my sweets!

Ok- I have a major sweet tooth myself, and, apologies to other posters, fruit just doesn't cut it (unless it is covered in chocolate). Jello makes a 60 calorie pudding cup that's sugar free (Dulce de Leche rocks my world) and I try to drink a lot- including diet soda (no sugar but still tastes sweet). Oh, and there are also sugar free fudgesicles. Mmmmm, tasty. I think I'll go have one now...

I do like fruits and vegetables. Cutting them up right away is a great tip, Angie!

I don't get running. I love yoga and aerobics. I suppose Chloe and I could sweat to the oldies every morning. I miss my gym. The elliptical machine is my apparatice of choice.

I over came my very serious chocolate addiction with the 40 calorie fudgesicles. They are frozen and kind of taste like chocolate. Since they are only 40 calories, I feel like I can eat 2-8 a day. Have you tried them?

Get the book "Eat This! Not That!" it's totally inspiring.

When I get an "I need something sweet!!" craving I CHEW GUM!!! See, I really think I just need to chew something and Orbit Sweet Mint (sugarfree) totally works for me. I'm not hungry, I just think I need something sweet. I buy it in bulk at BJ's and put a pack in my purse, in the kitchen, my gym bag, my church bag, my dresser drawer...maybe I'm the one wit the problem...

Hey-Fellow-Emotional-Eater-With-Husband-In-Residency! You're doing better than me - one pair of capris I can button. Mmmm...So my attempts are: when I think I want to eat (stressed eat, not actual mealtimes) I drink a big glass of water. And I try to eat those tiny carrot things everyone's so big on. And I don't buy anything delicious (most of the girls' snacks are NOT appealing to me) to taunt me around the house. And not buying french fries. And if I'm really jonesing I can make some hot chocolate. That's better for me than a snickers, if not as delicious. And I've decided instead of driving all the time to the really awesome park the kids love I'll walk them to the mediocre park down the road more often. At least it's two more miles walked for me (I don't really do running, either. Aerobics, pilates, yoga, yes). We'll see how it goes when I get on the scale on Tuesday. And if all that doesn't work, you can do what Ricky suggested when I explained to him that since I don't get any other vices to relieve stress, only eating helps.....he told me I should crochet instead of stuff food into my head. Right..........

I have no suggestions because I love my sweets too. I do buy cones for my ice cream so it limits how much I can serve myself (as opposed to eating out of the container, which is SO much fun). Don't tell yourself you can't have ANYthing sweet, otherwise you think you'll die without it.
