Chinese Takeout New Year

When we first moved here, our first goal was to find a cheap Chinese restaurant that delivered. (I'll give you a moment to admire our priorities.) Anyway, last weekend we finally found the Dragon Diner! Woohoo! Achieving a goal felt so good that I decided to make a few more for the rest of the year. Someone once told me that it's not a goal unless you write it down, so I'm sharing them here.

1. Find a vegetable Harrison will eat. This WILL happen.

2. Figure out a way to stick it to Walmart. (Because yelling, "I hate you Walmart!" every time I leave the parking lot no longer does it for me.)

3. Talk myself into breastfeeding again. (It is neither painless, magical, nor convenient for me.)

4. Find a new laundry folding show now that Dawson's Creek reruns are no longer on the air. (Don't judge me. It reminds me of home. Not because I used to use four-syllable words to express my teen angst but because it was filmed in NC.)

5. Exercise. (I'm pretty sure this is required on these lists.)

6. Read more books. Any suggestions? (And, no, I don't want to read a Stephanie Myers book, but thanks for asking.)

7. Replace my printer cartridge. (That one is more of a "to do," but I keep forgetting to write it down.)

Well, that's all for now. I'm feeling good about this. 2009 is going to be awesome!

Have you been reading MY Diary?! Well all except #6, because I thought the Twilight series was pretty great.

I just finished reading the Tale of Despereaux by Kate Dicamillo and it is a fun little read and the writing style is awesome!!

Have you read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins? Really great. Just be warned that she is continuing the story in another volume to be released this fall. If you don't like being left hanging, you may want to hold off until that one comes out before starting it.

Paper Towns by John Green is also really good.

I suggest the Goose Girl series by Shannon Hale. Very lovely. Plus if you like the Goose Girl you've got 2 more books you can read - so it's a bonus! I also loved the book Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen who is a NC author, so a little bit of "home" in there for you... she describes her writing as "southern-fried magical realism" - if that doesn't make you want to read it then I don't know what.

I miss you.

When you figure out how to stick it to Walmart would you please fill me in. I don't know why I can't just blacklist that place. Yes I do. I'm cheap.

I have been lost without Dawson's Creek reruns the last couple years. I wanted to name our daughter Joey, but the problem is that everyone would know that I was naming her that because of my sick infatuation with that show. Thank goodness for Fringe. Did I ever tell you that I watched them film an episode of Dawson's Creek one day in Raleigh and got to meet some of the cast? And I was an extra on One Tree Hill (3rd season finale). Go NC!! I will end this eerily revealing and long comment now.

Yeah, Wall Mart is one of those love hate relationships for me too. I hate going there, yet I go there almost four times a week. eeek!!
I am with you on the Twilight series. No good for me.
And I think the Chinese delivery is the best goal of all!!! I need to find one of those here too......hmmmmm

Oh, K.Q.! You are making me laugh so hard. Don't be jealous, but I totally had a "Pacey's Girlfriend" t-shirt.

The Devil in the White City is really interesting. Try that. I liked it. Good goals!

KQ said...

I want that shirt. Maybe I will have one made. I'm not sure how Travis will feel about it, but at this point I'm feeling pretty solid about our relationship, so it may not be an issue.

Maybe I need a laundry show. My exercise show is "Full House." Maybe Gilmore Girls will be my laundry show. :)
Congrats on finding your Chinese delivery spot. I am VERY jealous! Please pass along a child-friendly vegetable when you find it.

Hmm, good books to read...
I have recently become obsessed with Dorothy Sayers- mysteries written in the 1920s and featuring a foppish Lord as the detective. They are both witty and clever. Start with Gaudy Nights- there are some interesting points about women and education.
Also good are the PD James mysteries (the detective is a poet- why do I find these weird detectives so fascinating???).
I have read Haven Kimmel recently as well- she's an author from Durham and wrote 'Call me Zippy' and 'She Got Up Off the Couch' They are hilarious and remind me of home.

On the Wal-mart front, I have taken to writing nasty letters about the state of their stores and the fact that the panhandlers outside the store make more money than the employees. So, yes, I feel your pain on the Wal-mart front.
Alright, this comment is too long, now. Hello to Jeff and the kids!

ummm...why isn't anyone commenting on the most hilarious skit in forever to come from snl. i find neil patrick harris to be one of the funniest people ever.
your goals are full of merit. congratulations on accomplishing one so quickly.
not everyone is a champion breast feeder. if you hate it so, don't feel guilty, just remember that your baby won't be quite as promising as the others.
the only way to stick it to sam walton is to avoid him.
just pay the few cents extra. it will heal the economy.

Nursing... Once I get past the first month I'm ok until the baby gets teeth. I am only 14 wks pregnant and was thinking about the dreaded start of nursing today! You might think by baby #4 it wouldn't be so bad... but now I will have a 10 yr old son to try and shield myself from... Boy eyes and boobs... It will be interesting. Maybe he will just be disgusted by the whole thing and want to avoid the topic!
As far as Wal-mart, I hate them too! I was black listed there a few years ago! Ha! Too many returns. I try to go to Target instead, but there are some things that I really like a Wal-mart. Sad to admit!
Anyway, best of luck!

I vowed never to return to Walmart...and I haven't. I would gladly pay extra to not deal with them.

I'll get back to you on the books. I've read a few I liked this year.

That was the best end to your little post. I think I cried, i was laughing so hard. Mostly because it had nothing to do with your blog.
Let's watch an old show together. It can be like my non-existant book club, you know, where we talk about the episodes and stuff.
Also, you should eat at the Navajo taco joint on 3300. I discovered it the week we moved here, and hadn't been able to find it again until you moved here. You're such a blessing.

I figured The Notorious N.P.H. needed no introduction. I showed that clip to Harrison and he said, "Why is this funny?" Ah, youth!

I would like to thank you and your blog for adding countless days to my laugh, I mean life. What is that laughter to minutes ratio...? Get a new ink catridge and check it off! Yee haw! I think everything else has been covered to my satisfaction. :D

aaa! I have been meaning to put that doogie theme song up too!

Don't know what time laundry time is, but Jon& kate plus 8 is my folding show...and the production company is in Carrboro! Or, Lifetime just got How I Met Your Mother in reruns, so you could have some NPH time.

If it makes you feel better I'm not even going to think about trying to talk myself into breastfeeding my 3rd (whenever that one shows up). I agree, it was not painless, magical or convenient. I tried with all my might with the first two and only lasted 1 month with each. I'm just going to go ahead and surrender now.

And we looooove Dragon Diner!
