Percy Jackson and the Lightning Quick Defender

Harrison's basketball season has begun.  He plays for the Defenders and they are awfully quick.  So quick that I have never been able to get a picture of them in focus.

Last week the Defenders played the Shamrocks.  You would think that a defender would be able to beat the tar out of a shamrock, but Harrison's team lost pretty hard.  We have a good feeling about this weekend's game, though.  I think they're playing the Hunchbacks.
Look how cute he his trying to block that big redhead's shot.  Adorable.

Last week we finished reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.  What a great book!  Harrison had already read all of the books in the series and seen the movie, but I was new to it all.  It's a fantastic blend of modern storytelling and Greek mythology.  I loved reading it outloud because there was a lot of dialogue and I do all the voices.  The chapters were a little too long for Chloe and waaaayyy to long for Miles.  We've added Miles to our storytime and he's still getting the hang of it.  Mostly he's just there for the spin hugs at the end.  (Where I spin them around and throw them on the bed.  It's a fan favorite.)

The movie was very different from the book.  They made a lot of changes (including changing Percy's age from 12 to 16) and I did not care for any of them.  Apart from the book, it's still a good movie with some pretty awesome action sequences that may or may not give your children nightmares for a couple of days.  Also, Pierce Brosnan appears as a centaur, which is either creepy or awesome.  (I still haven't decided.)  The books are definitely worth checking out.

I thought the movie was really good so I'll have to read the books now. LOVE the basketball pix! Hope they beat the Hunchbacks this weekend! Go Defenders!
