Let Them Eat Pie!

As I mentioned last year, Jeff's family likes to celebrate Pie Day the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This involves his mom making tons of pie and everyone eating pie for every meal. We couldn't make it to North Carolina for Thanksgiving this year, and Jeff worked all day Wednesday and Thursday but I wasn't about to miss Pie Day.

I told the kids that we were only going to eat pie on Wednesday and awaited their enthusiastic cheers. Harrison told me that was ridiculous and impossible. We eventually agreed on a a compromise of pizza for one meal (since it technically falls in the pie category).

I spent the day making a pumpkin cheesecake (for the next day), pumpkin pie, buttermilk pie, and razzleberry pie (courtesy of my friend Marie). My house smelled incredible all day and Harrison even helped out a bit.

When it was finally time to eat pie, Harrison and Chloe were more interested in the ice cream on top. They each ate half a piece of pie and three helpings of ice cream.

And that's the story of how I ate three pies and a cheesecake by myself.

I love it! My favorite Thanksgiving memory of all time is the year we had more pies than people. Maybe next year we'll have to add Pie Day to our list of holidays to celebrate!

what is up with kids being totally stoked about dessert like pie or cake and then only eating the ice cream or frosting. grrrrrr.

Why did you keep the buttermilk pie at home? This could have been the story of how you and your hungry sister ate four pies.

Yay for Pie Day! My family eats only pie for the dinner before Thanksgiving, but to eat it for a whole day... BRILLIANT! Too bad your kids didn't think so. I may have to add Razzleberry to our menu- we used to sell that at Cherry Hill.

That is a cool tradition!! I may have to try that one.......but then I would have to make a bunch of pies hu? You are so good to actually make them. My neighbor made our pie and with that, I didn't do a thing. ha ha!

Glad to know you are keeping up the family tradition! Why hasn't Patti invited the Blaznickey's for all these years? Glad you had a good turkey day, as we did. We really did have a lot of fun, and the cousins did great. Give your folks/family a big hug from Big Papa and Big Mama, thanx!

There's a new variation of pie day going on out here called pie night. No, it's not just because it's dark. Everyone brings their favorite pie (one mind you) and have a pie potluck. If you don't adore making pies more than anything in the world, than this is a great substitute for a fine tradition. :D
