Double Digits

[Harrison and some of the Lego Lord of the Rings characters he got for his birthday.]

Last week our oldest child turned ten and magically became our favorite.  Every other year our kids get a birthday party with friends.  This year was a friend year for Harrison and all he wanted was to go swimming with his three best friends.  No party theme, elaborate decorations, moderately enjoyable games, or lengthy guest list required.  BAM!  You're the favorite.
I even kicked it up a notch and had his friends stay for Harrison's favorite food: pizza from Aldi.

When we got to the pool, a swim meet was just beginning.  Boooooo.  That meant no deep pool, no diving board, and no waterslide.  Good thing I brought out the big guns.

Ben, Zack, Colton, and Harrison.  They were trying to pose like a family.  Weird and funny.

These boys were killing me with their hilarious conversations.  A couple of girls from school showed up and Colton ran over to flirt with them and tell them that Harrison had a crush on one of them.  ("And, Harrison, I told him it wasn't just 'like', it was 'LOVE'.")  Pahahahahaha!  And even though it was mildly disturbing that they all wanted me to crank up the radio so they could sing along to "Get Lucky", I could have listened to them talk forever.
The boys did a special birthday rap for him.  Awesome.  You know what else is awesome?  Harrison can now legally babysit his siblings.  Favorite!

This past year Harrison has changed quite a bit.  He's become much more comfortable in his own skin and a happier kid all around.  He's constantly entertaining us with his jokes and piano playing.  He brings the fun and we can't wait to watch him grow.

Oh my, so this is what I get to look forward to in two years for Emmett? The being comfortable in his own skin and legally able to babysit would be awesome, but I am not sure about this flirting stuff. :) That party sounds perfect. I am loving your underwater pictures too. Did you say you are taking them with your movie camera?
Happy birthday, Harrison!

What?! In MD, a kid has to be 13 before they can baby-sit children under the age of 8, even siblings. One more reason to look into moving to St. Louis. :)

Fun to see Harrison with his pals. He's always seemed more grown up than he is, so I like hearing that he's goofy with his buddies. HB, H!
