Harrison turned 11 years old a couple of weeks ago. Grandma and Grandpa sent him a card that dances and sings. It was mesmerizing.
We love this kid. I love talking to him and making him laugh and watching him succeed and learn and grow. Also, he's super handsome and all kinds of awesome.
Having a birthday away from friends and family can be sort of sad, so I was determined to pack as much fun-filled action in the day as possible so he wouldn't have time to think about it.
First, we presented him with a pocket knife. (Still regretting that one. If he had a totin chip, he would have had his knife taken away by Noon.) We spent the morning swimming, then introduced Harrison to his first In-N-Out burger, let him spend some birthday cold hard cash at Gamestop, went to see "Earth to Echo" (which was a more family-friendly, way less awesome version of "E.T."), ate his birthday dinner, and let him pick out a cake at Fry's.
Harrison declared it his favorite birthday of all time. Success!
The absolute greatest thing that happened that day was that as he blew out the last candle and we finished singing "Happy Birthday," Harrison passed gas. We will treasure that moment for years to come.

A perfect ending for the best 11 year old birthday ever!
