The day we moved to Arizona, we looked up the Diamondback's schedule to see when they were playing the St. Louis Cardinals. We had to wait until Friday night to see our Cards again, but it was worth the wait.
All week long Jeff had been telling me the various scenarios in which the Cardinals would clinch the division over the Pittsburgh Pirates. I don't know why it made me laugh, but I liked to ask him daily, "Did they clinch it?!"
Chase Field is an indoor ballpark, which was a little bizarro. It's nowhere near as pretty as Busch Stadium, but hallelujah for air conditioning! The food was waaayyyy better, too. Which was good, since that's the only way our kids will sit through nine innings.
What's more American than this? We're so patriotic. Jeff had that super serious look on his face for the first half of the game, because the Diamondbacks were winning 2-0.
Then the Cardinals pulled ahead 6-2! We figured it was over and hoped that the rest of the game would go by quickly. Then the Diamondbacks came back and tied it.
Then Miles spilled slushee on me and I went to clean up. I had to walk passed this guy dressed like a bobblehead. It was terrifying. I've always been afraid of people dressed up like this. It turns out it's a real fear called "masklophobia."
The Cardinals won in the 10th inning and we had fun celebrating with the many St. Louis fans in the stadium that night. The loud group of youths sitting behind us went home sad, but that's not my problem.
We didn't know it at the time, but that was the night the Cardinals clinched the division. Go, Cards!

Yay! They clinched it! It must be nice to have a winning team to root for.
A nailbiter AND a bobblehead guy! That was an intense game! I loved the picture you caught of all the kids consuming food at the same time. Priceless!
So happy to see you're still supporting the redbirds in Arizona. Big game tonight. Go Cardinals!!!!
